About Astican Shipyard

Astican (Astilleros Canarios) is a premier shipyard located in the Canary Islands of Spain, specifically in the port of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. Established in 1973, Astican has grown into a leading ship repair and maintenance facility, serving a diverse range of vessels from around the world. Its strategic location on the busy maritime routes between Europe, Africa, and the Americas makes it a crucial stopover point for ships requiring high-quality, efficient services.

Astican's facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure, including a large floating dock capable of handling vessels up to 36,000 DWT, extensive repair quays, and fully-equipped workshops.  And of course an awesome syncrolift: 175 mts long, the dry-docking system is a versatile Syncrolift platform with a lifting capacity of 10.000 MT in dry-docking condition for vessels up to 36.000 DWT and a beam limitation of 30 m. Vessels can be dry-docked at very short notice.

The Astican shipyard specializes in a wide array of services, such as hull and machinery repairs, steel and pipework, electrical and automation services, and the maintenance of specialized offshore vessels.

One of Astican's key strengths is its ability to offer rapid turnaround times without compromising on quality. This efficiency is supported by a highly skilled workforce and a commitment to continuous innovation and investment in new technologies. The shipyard is also known for its flexible approach, capable of accommodating a wide variety of vessels, from oil tankers and bulk carriers to fishing vessels and luxury yachts.

Their focus on innovation and flexibility makes Astican a very appreciated partner for Syncrolift

The facts

Astican Shiplift And Transfer System

Efficient Shipyard layout

Astican Shipyard is in a very busy region servicing traffic between 3 continents. They take great pride in their ability to dock and service vessels efficently.

One of the key factors for Astican is their smart shipyard layout. They have 7 docking lanes close to the shiplift allowing them to lift and "park" the vessels very efficiently.

Contact us at Syncrolift if you need a good partner for discussing shipyard layout planning.

Flexibility

The Syncrolift and transfer system at Astican gives the shipyard flexibility. Vessels needing more time for repairs and refits will not block vessels needing only minor work. They can be lifted, worked on and undocked without "queueing".

Unneccesary dock time is eliminated and the vessels can head back out to sea faster. This is highly appreciated by captains and ship owners.

Visit Las Palmas

The Canary Islands have been a major tourist destination for sunseeking europeans for decades. Beautiful beaches and great food and drinks are in abundance here, but Gran Canaria has more to offer than the typical touristy beach stuff.

If you like interesting road trips with spectacular views, rent a car and drive to Mirador del Balcón (pictured) via The Valley of Tears (Valle de Las Lágrimas). It is a tough drive, but the rugged mountains and coastline will reward you with fantastic views.
